As far as the Stadia exclusive features, State Share is very cool - it lets people take a screenshot or video clip of their game, and anyone can instantly click on that asset and launch into that created world. Though it's exciting for your culture to change over time, it can get overwhelming if too many other players (whether real-life friends or computer AI) are switching their strategies every era as well. ![]() Still, it's tough to judge whether this key feature is enough to encourage hardcore fans of the Civilization series that this title is a must-play. This freedom to constantly make changes is very exciting, and it forces players to be more open to all of their options for growth over time, as their focus could change at any moment. For instance, a society may start out as a more militaristic one when their view of the map only contains one hostile neighbor, but it may become more concerned with naval trade when territory on an ocean is claimed in a later era and discovery of friendly allies across the sea is made. Instead of creating a strategy and sticking with it throughout the ages, Humankind gives players the opportunity to switch their strategy from era to era. The civic system is totally unique in this case, and it completely changes the gameplay. While there are rather minor differences between combat and map structure between the two, the biggest difference is the opportunity to build a culture piece by piece - which is only possible in Humankind. Both are played on a hexagonal game board, asking players to expand their nation over time, as well as communicate effectively with surrounding leaders and enemies. ![]() Obvious comparisons are being made between Humankind and Sid Meier's Civilization VI. This fantastic strategy game builds on classic titles and creates unique experiences that fans will love to explore. During each era, players can choose whether to keep their current cultural influence (which always comes with bonuses and modifiers) or choose a new one from a list of cultures that were dominant during that era in real life. The experience is the same across all versions, although the Google Stadia version of the game has some exclusive features like State Share, allowing other players to hop into your game world from the first turn and compete against your civilization's accomplishments, and a direct touch feature that allows Android mobile phones to act as controllers if you don't have one handy. The way to advance is by collecting “stars,” which players can get by building a certain number of districts in their cities, researching a certain number of technological innovations, defeating a certain number of enemy units in battle, or by staking a claim in a certain number of territories. Depending upon how successful each player is, as well as the length and difficulty chosen during that game, players may only make it as far as the Medieval or Industrial Era instead of all the way into the Modern Era. Every society starts as a Mycenaean hunter-gatherer tribe in the Neolithic Era, and players can advance to the next era by collecting fame, influence, or ‘science’ points, or by gaining food and building materials from the world around them. HUMANKIND guides players through six eras of history, all with their own challenges and possible achievements. ![]() 1/19/2023 0 Comments Waht does responsive layout mean![]() ![]() Smartphone conversion rates are up 64% over desktop conversion rates.57% of users say they won’t recommend a business with a poorly designed mobile site. Our guess is, if you don’t have a mobile-friendly website, the answer is no. 1/19/2023 0 Comments Cassette tape![]() When Richards rewound the tape, he heard the song's now-iconic guitar riff and his voice saying, "I can't get no satisfaction."įor many, cassettes have kept their cult status because they fulfill a dual promise of being both affordable and personal. Adding that he had no memory of writing the song, Richards said he woke up one morning to find that his Philips cassette recorder was at the end of its tape - apparently, he concluded, he had written something during the night. "I wrote 'Satisfaction' in my sleep," Richards wrote in Life, his 2010 autobiography. Those who have used cassettes to quickly record music include the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards, who famously said he captured one of his band's biggest songs in the middle of the night. Unsigned bands have also relied on them as a way to promote their music. For decades, music fans have used mixtapes to curate and share their favorite songs. The resurgence is driven by a mix of nostalgia and an appreciation for tapes' unique status as a tangible but flexible format. But interest in the format has surged in recent years, despite the remaking of the music industry in the digital and streaming age. Similar predictions were made about the cassette tape. Describing how little things have changed, he added, "So next time you make that perfect playlist on Spotify or send a link to share a song, you can thank Lou Ottens."Ĭassette tapes gave new control to music fans, allowing them to create and share their own collections of songs in a cheap and easily portable format. "Cassettes taught us how to use our voice, even when the message came from someone else's songs, compiled painstakingly on a mixtape," Taylor said. She noted that Ottens' original wooden prototype for the cassette "was lost when Lou used it to prop up his jack while change a flat tire."īorn in 1926, Ottens went from building a radio for his family during World War II - it reportedly had a directional antenna so it could focus on radio signals despite Nazi jamming attempts - to developing technology that would democratize music. "Lou was an extraordinary man who loved technology, even as his inventions had humble beginnings," said Philips Museum Director Olga Coolen. The result was unveiled to the world in 1963, and the "compact cassette" quickly took off: It was "a sensation" from the start, Ottens told Time in 2013, on the cassette's 50th anniversary. Trying to envision something that didn't yet exist, Ottens used a wooden block that was small and thin enough to fit in his pocket as the target for what the future of tape recording and playback should be. As Taylor says, "He advocated for Philips to license this new format to other manufacturers for free, paving the way for cassettes to become a worldwide standard."īut first, he had to invent it. Ottens' goal was to make something simple and affordable for anyone to use. "Lou wanted music to be portable and accessible," says documentary filmmaker Zack Taylor, who spent days with Ottens for his film Cassette: A Documentary Mixtape. He took on the challenge of shrinking tape technology in the early 1960s, when he became the head of new product development in Hasselt, Belgium, for the Dutch-based Philips technology company. The cassette tape was Ottens' answer to the large reel-to-reel tapes that provided high-quality sound but were seen as too clunky and expensive. Ottens died last Saturday, according to the Dutch news outlet NRC Handelsblad, which lists his age as 94. Ottens was a talented and influential engineer at Philips, where he also helped develop consumer compact discs. Lou Ottens, who put music lovers around the world on a path toward playlists and mixtapes by leading the invention of the first cassette tape, has died at age 94, according to media reports in the Netherlands. ![]() Lou Ottens, who led the invention of the first cassette tape, has died at 94.Īlfred Assmann/Picture Alliance via Getty Images ![]() ![]() A Philips cassette tape is shown in 1965. ![]() 1/17/2023 0 Comments Securecrt for mac download![]()
